Use a Separate Microfiber Towel for Each Task

Car drying, wax removal, polish residue, coating levelling, glass cleaning and interior wiping place different demands on a towel. Using task-specific microfiber improves control and reduces the chance of transferring wheel dirt, grease or chemicals to delicate paint and glass.

Colour-code towels or store them in labelled containers. Towels used on wheels, engines or heavy contamination should not return to paintwork.

GSM, Weave and Edge Design

GSM describes fabric weight, but a higher number does not automatically make a towel suitable for every job. Plush or twisted-loop towels are often selected for drying, short-pile towels for polish removal, suede cloths for coating application or levelling, and low-lint weaves for glass.

Inspect edging and stitching before use. A clean, soft edge reduces the chance of marking sensitive finishes, while damaged or hardened fibres can compromise results.

Safe Drying and Product Removal

After rinsing, place a clean drying towel on the panel and use gentle blotting or controlled passes rather than heavy pressure. Replace or rotate the towel when it becomes saturated. For polish, wax or coating residue, use multiple clean sides and change towels before they become loaded.

Do not use a towel that has fallen on the floor until it has been properly washed and inspected. Small grit particles can scratch paint.

Washing and Storing Microfiber

Wash microfiber separately from lint-producing cotton and heavily contaminated workshop cloths. Use a suitable detergent, avoid fabric softener and follow the towel manufacturer’s temperature guidance. Fabric softener can reduce absorbency and leave residue in the fibres.

Dry at the recommended temperature and store towels clean, dry and protected from dust. Retire towels that remain contaminated, rough or damaged after washing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What GSM microfiber towel is best for car drying?

High-GSM or twisted-loop towels are commonly used for drying, but absorbency, weave, size and construction are also important.

Can the same microfiber towel be used on paint and wheels?

No. Keep wheel and heavy-contamination towels separate from paint, glass and interior towels.

Should microfiber towels be washed before first use?

Follow the product instructions. Washing can remove loose manufacturing lint, but use the recommended method.

Can fabric softener be used on microfiber?

It is generally avoided because it can coat the fibres and reduce absorbency or cleaning performance.

When should a microfiber towel be replaced?

Replace or downgrade it when fibres become rough, contaminated, damaged or unable to perform the intended task safely.
